Welcome to!A subreddit for all of those who love the Total War series. Hi, let me just start by saying iv never played a Total War game before.

Recently these 2 games piqued my interest and I want to get 1 of them. #2 is the newer one (obv haha) but it seems to have less factions. They are both the same price on Steam and both quite expensive.Which one do you recommend buying? Is #2 just a better one in general even with less factions?(I did see on YouTube that people were playing the #1 factions on the #2 game, in multiplayer can I play the #1 factions?)Thank You:). Wait for a sale (or look for one in online stores). Buy the first one for 20 Euros. Try it.If you like it, think about trying the DLC's and wait for a sale in the second one.You can use the old factions in the second game, both in multiplayer and in an expanded campaign BUT you need the first game for that, so you are going to want it anyway.btw, I would recommend waiting a bit more for the second game, because balance patches and free DLC's and stuff. The first one is already complete, with most if not all bugs fixed by now, so it will keep you entertained until the second one goes on sale.

Mainly because the DLC races are inflating the price, and I was never interested in most of them, so I didn't get them (Wood elves, Beastmen and Chaos, I got the race packs and Norsca).I think you can also get the base game for a much, much cheaper price (20 bucks?).If you are new to the game/franchise, I would still recommend picking the first game. If only because even if you pick the second one, you are gonna want the first one to get to the expanded campaign, which is kind of a huge map with a free for all going on.It's all up to you, watch some youtube streamers if you want to know more about the games and what they offer.

Still, if I were to give advice to a friend, I would recommend him to but the first one by cheap, play it and get used to it. If he likes it, then wait til May or so, when the second game is going to receive a big update, and probably, will go on sale too. And then pick it up. Skaven are the most entertaining army CA has ever made though Tomb Kings and some others are pretty good.More importantly the races all have unique mechanics and the map with 4 seperate landmasses allows some invasions and feels different being on a not Europe map.Armies in TW2 end up having more monsters, more heroes, and feel more fantastical.

WH2 is a bit less grim as well since in WH1 the Chaos Invasion tends to raze and turn half the map into depopulated wastelands unless the player actively intervenes fairly early. WH1 also has certain climates restricted so races can only conquer roughly half the map.
